The Marrakech season, as we run it
· 2 min read · Barbaro Tours of Morocco
Peak from October to April, summer at dawn and dusk, and what that means for the trips you book.
Marrakech works all year. What the months change is the hour the day starts and which trips carry it.
October to April: the busy months
Peak runs from October to April. Christmas and New Year is the peak the whole fleet of 22 is staffed for, and Easter and the February and October school breaks in Europe are the other spikes.
June to September: dawn and dusk
Summer in Marrakech is hot, and the day moves to its edges. Agafay evenings and dawn balloon flights carry the season. Essaouira day trips sell on the coast breeze. The multi-day desert loops still run, and they leave earlier.
The Agafay dinner and show leaves late afternoon, around 3 to 4pm. How a Barbaro day runs has the full list.
Balloons, all year
Balloons fly all year at dawn, weather permitting. When the weather stops a flight, the terms of the flight you booked apply, and they differ from flight to flight, so read them in the booking window before you pay. Morocco Hot Air Balloons opens later. Until then the flights book from the home page.
Layers, whatever the month
Balloon pickup comes before first light and moves with the season, because the flight is timed to sunrise. The trip notes ask for warm layers for the pre-dawn start and the cooler air at altitude. The desert overnights ask for layers too: evenings at camp are cooler than the day. Agafay is close enough for an evening out, approximately 40 km and 45 to 60 minutes each way in normal traffic.
Booking ahead
Nine of the ten journeys on this site confirm instantly when you book. On every journey, cancelling more than 72 hours before departure gets a full refund. On the three-day Agafay trip: “Hot air balloon and some third-party services may be non-refundable once confirmed.”
Each journey page shows the next departures the booking calendar holds. See all journeys. If you have dates and a group size, send them on WhatsApp to +212 611 983 567 and the office in Marrakech will tell you what runs.
